Lal Darwaza is written and directed by Divya Bandaru, whose short-form storytelling has already established her as one of the more precise, distinctive voices working in Telugu independent cinema — a filmmaker who finds the emotional core of a story inside chaos rather than despite it.
Set against the noise, colour and crowd of Hyderabad's Bonalu festival, the film follows a couple whose evening out unravels in the old city's narrow lanes. What begins as an ordinary disagreement over a missing bike becomes something much larger — the film uses the festival's external chaos as a mirror for the quieter, sharper turmoil building between the two of them.

Lal Darwaza has been shortlisted for screening at the Seoul International New Waves Film Awards 2026, continuing its festival run following recognition from the selection committee. The film is currently being submitted to additional festivals as part of its ongoing circuit.
